Our string program currently includes private instruction on violin. Our private violin lessons start as young as age 4 and can be taught in the Suzuki method, traditional method, or combination of both. We also offer annual testing through the Certificate of Merit system should the student be interested. We encourage parents to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning. We supplement our private violin lessons with fun ensembles that teach students camaraderie and team work, skills that are critical in world of string playing, orchestral playing, and life! We encourage the participation of these ensembles in our recitals and workshops.
Our violin teachers have university or college degrees in their instrument and many perform regularly with local orchestras or bands. Basic restrictions to starting age are usually due to the size of the child – e.g. hand size for piano or lung capacity for brass and woodwinds. Our private lessons are one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour.
Irvine School of Music offers multiple, optional performance opportunities each year with our Winter recital, Summer recital, and weekly open-mic nights throughout the academic year.
